Ink Exchange Review

Dear You,

With all of my extra time lately, I've been reading quite a few books.

I read the first book in this series, Wicked Lovely, a few months ago because it's a pretty popular YA book. It wasn't bad but I never felt the need to continue on the series. The book has a resolute ending and it wasn't Divergent-worthy interesting.

However I was in the library needing more to read and the sequel caught my eye so I checked it out.

It's a well written book, with an interesting premise. But for some reason, I couldn't get that interested in it. I got pretty bored in the middle of the book.

Firstly, I thought I had the wrong book at first because it starts off with a whole new side of the story without explaining how it has anything to do with the previous book. I legitimately scoured the internet for a non-existent plot summary of Wicked Lovely. I was rather confused for the first 20 pages or so.

Eventually, it all ties together but the main character is different from the original book. It gave a new and interesting perspective, I had grown attached to the original main character but it was a unique choice which I always appreciate.

The book didn't contain any profound messages or stand out themes but did contain an admirable amount of politics and a definitely struggle to identify between good and evil. Because truly, no one is entirely good or evil. The heroes do bad things and the villain does good things, even when the villain does bad things, there can be a good reason behind it. At least, that's what I got from it, that there's no clear line between good and evil. Just actions and justifications.

It was an easy read, I think it took me 2 or 3 days and it wasn't a waste at all, I did enjoy the book but it's also not my favorite. I'll probably only read the next one if again, I have nothing else to read and happen to see it on a shelf.

Have you ever read any of these books? Leave me a comment with your thoughts below!
