Gone Review

Dear You,

I finished the book Gone by Michael Grant late last night, a little behind my normal reading schedule but it was a bit longer than my normal books, about 540 pages.

I love the idea of this young adult sci-fi novel, some of the books in this genre have been getting quite similar but the ideas in this book are refreshingly unique. The main premise of the book is that everyone 15 and older disappears and the remaining kids are left to fend for themselves with quite a few challenges in the meantime.

The author includes a good number of twists, something I greatly appreciated because I tend to predict book's endings and that's no fun. So getting surprised by unexpected turns makes a book so much better.

After so many twists, the plot line got a little complicated with some mysteries that aren't even solved by the end of the book just hinted towards a sequel (Hunger, which is already out). However I don't think everyone appreciates such complicated plot lines in the first book, most trilogies take on one big problem per book. I liked it and appreciated the originality but I know not everyone will, but I guess that's all books, right? Not everyone will like any one book.

The book was quite long and had it's good parts and a few slow parts that I may have skimmed through. Does everyone do that? If a part is slower than I'd like, I subconsciously skim through it really quickly to get to a more exciting part. Maybe it's just me.

One final note I have is that this book includes a love story, which I do love in my sci-fi/fantasy novels however the book is about 14 year olds. I don't know about you but I my 14 year old love life was extremely boring, maybe that's just me though. I've heard of some pregnant freshman in this area, maybe I just had my nose in laptops and books too much to notice anything else.

Overall, I really did like the book, no matter how much I just criticized it. If I didn't like it I would've just stopped reading it but I appreciated the originality of the story's premise and the author's creativity with the plot line, the characters had a lot of diversity and were developed quite well. I'll definitely read the sequel soon but I have like 10 other books on my Kindle so I'm a bit tied up in that department for a few weeks.

Have you read the book? What'd you think? Leave me a comment below!

Have an Amazing Day!
